Hi, Girl Scouts! Here are some things going on, plus a Very Merry Christmas, Hanukah, Yule and Solstice, etc. etc.

It's the Season! For lots of fun and getting together with Family. It's also a very rushed season for some.

I hope you have a very nice Holiday, Christmas, Yule/Solstice, Hanukah, then Kwanzaa and New Year's plus any other winter Holiday you observe.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Some neat things are coming in via my Email inbox.

One is the new Cookie Connections newsletter. If you did not get this, let Volunteer Care know about it. You must be registered, as you probably know, at MYGS, so check that too.

Other things are coming up. The hours are changing at our PLCs.

Here is a message about that from Leslie Willoughby at the Caveland PLC.

"Service Unit Managers and/or leaders:
Just a friendly reminder December 12, 2016 will be the last day our shop is open until January 2017. December 14, 2016 will be my last day at the office until January 2, 2017 so please let me know if there is anything I can do for you between now and then! Our office will be closed December 26 - January 1, 2017 so make sure you come by to get cookie materials if you need them.
Also cookies are right around the corner so it is important that we have a bank account report form (see attached) on file in order for you to sell cookies! If you sold cookies last year then you should be good.
Thank you!"

MYGS has another link at the MYGS site for  Girl Scout Day at the University of Louisville Women’s Basketball.

Creatures at Camp Stem has been posted at the GSK Calendar/Events listing.

Camp Pennyroyal has Trail Cleanup Day Sat. March 4th or March 18 and also Open Hike Day Sunday, April 23, contact Kelly Lynn or any Site Team Member about it.

AND via GSK News You Can Use:

"THE COOKIES ARE COMING!!!
We are thrilled to kick off our 2017 Cookie Program and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the commercial cookie sale beginning January 1st, 2017! We have many exciting things planned for this year, including a BRAND NEW cookie, anniversary themed rewards for girls and an improved Digital Order Card experience.
Service Unit Cookie Chairs and Troop Leaders will receive a registration link from GSUSA for Digital Cookie 3.0 on December 4th. Please be sure to complete this registration for yourself and/or your troop(s).
Parents will receive their registration link on December 11th, 2016.
You can look forward to more cookie program information in our new weekly email update, “Cookie Connections”, which will arrive to your inbox beginning next Tuesday, December 6th!
If you have any questions, please contact Karen Smallwood ksmallwood@gskentuckiana.org or Brooke Slone bslone@gskentuckiana.org."

My favorite cookie is Thin Mint...
Check your MYGS Website area - Events Page for more events and also your GSK News You Can Use which comes via email for more news and events.

Plus, you can check the UNofficial Calendar at this site too. It does not have everything on it, but some things! Here is that link: http://eblast17.blogspot.com/p/unofficial-ky-and-gs-calendar-area-17.html

All for now - - hope this gets online soon.

B

PS You may have just also gotten a copy of the BGAMUG Computer Club News for this month in your Inbox. I am the new President there, and Blogger's link to blogs has been changed, so this has been sent to my GS list. Glitchy, glitchy. Ack. Fixing these links is now on my list for next month. :-) Don't worry, you are NOT on the list for this. Sorry about that... I tried to erase it, but it took awhile.

Warren County Meeting this Tuesday for NEW leaders and co-leaders in Girl Scouts - a note from Tracey

Dear all,

Sorry if some of you got a BGAMUG Computer Club invitation. Sorry about that! I deleted it. I really don't know how I glitched that one up, but must have. It's another group I help with.

Here is some important Girl Scout News for the Warren County Service Unit leaders and co-leaders:

For new leaders and co-leaders in Warren County, our Service Unit Manager Tracey has another meeting that is MUCH more important.

If you are on her email list, you will have probably gotten it yesterday, with an update today.

Tracey's email is:  sum.warren.ky@gmail.com.

Hello,
If you are a NEW leader or co-leader then you will need to have the in-person training "Network Like a Girl Scout."

If you have already taken this training, that is great!

If not, I have scheduled one for Tuesday 10/25/16 at 5:30pm at the Kirby branch of the library.
<5:30 - 6:30>
Please be sure to let me know if you do plan to attend this training so that I can be sure to have enough supplies.
Remember - you should not have any troop meetings before having this training.
If I do not hear from anyone, then I will not be there.  I need to know if anyone does plan to attend.
Thank you,

Tracey

You can contact her at sum.warren.ky@gmail.com.

Area 17 Meeting went well, I found my photos from the Pennyroyal Training Extravaganza, more. Edited with latest Magnut info.

This butterfly reminds me of one I saw at Camp Shantituck at the Fall Training Extravaganza this past Sept. 9-11. Here is that butterfly:

I thought I'd lost these photos, but found them yesterday looking for OTHER photos. They were on another computer.

If you have not seen these, they are at the UNofficial Camp Shantituck site on Facebook today. Here is that link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/616374948450586/.

If you are in that area, or you can travel there, Lisa Leonard is reminding people: Don't forget that this Saturday is Take Down the Tents day at Camp Pennyroyal! <October 22nd> We start at 9 and work at least till 12:30-1, when we'll stop for turkey chili and cornbread muffins for lunch. After lunch we'll evaluate and see how much more we can do; extra hands and muscles are welcome! Respond to tell me if you can help. <You can message her on FB, or can email her at lleonard@gskentuckiana.org>.

Via a volunteer today about Magnut Sales:
"Online sales go until 11/21. Regular nut/candy orders have to submitted by 10/25.
You can check you troop roster on the NutE site and Karen Smallwood can fix it if your roster is wrong."

WC SU MTG:
The Warren County Service Unit met this week. We got MANY flyers, announcements, and lots of news.

I did not stay for the MagNut training, though I wanted to.

What I did after the meeting: The next day after the meeting, I scanned and then put many of the flyers I got at the meeting all online in the KYANA and Warren Co. Facebook pages, then put some of the other news on as postings. (see below for links to these...)

What people saw on the Facebook pages then is LOTS of news scrolling down the page. Sorry, but this is the only way to post things, short of having a newsletter (which I'm thinking about doing later on.) Scroll down until the events are out of date. Then you will see most of them.

HOW TO ORGANIZE THE POSTINGS
To organize, you may want to put the DATES on a separate page for yourselves, OR go to the MYGS-EVENTS listing at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana website for some of them. Not all are on there yet. Some are local events, accessed by flyers. This will hopefully change later on, when all are on the Official website in plenty of time.

MY UNOFFICIAL GIRL SCOUT CALENDAR
You can also read the UNofficial Events List/Calendar at my Private Blog. It is a page there. I have a lot of things listed there, but not all of them. PM me on Facebook or email me at lizann447@yahoo.com to be added there so you can see it. Then look for your invitation and link. If you don't get it the same day or the next day, or are unable to get to this blog page, let me know. I update the UNofficial Events List/Calendar often.

HOW TO ADD PEOPLE TO THE UNOFFICIAL FB PAGES:
Here are the Facebook Pages - - so you can share them.

The Warren County  SU and Beyond: An Unofficial Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KYANA.Cluster2.and.Beyond/
The KYANA GS Member-Volunteer Facebook page - unofficial: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KYANA.GS/

You can also add readers there by "inviting" them at the top right. "Add" if you KNOW they would like to be there, "Invite" them if you are not sure.

If somebody does not have Girl Scout pictures on their FB page, or I don't know them, I will need to ask them to share a little about themselves, and why they want to join the page. I may even send messages to FB friends to help OK them if there is time. This is to cut down on spammers.

ARE YOU ALREADY ON THE MYGS PAGES?
This can also be known as the MYGS Pages, the Volunteer Toolkit, the Opportunity Catalog (for K-5 troops), Your Web Signin, your Official Signin at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana website, or The Events Pages. This Leader and Volunteer info. section is here: https://gsmembers.force.com/members/login.

The GIRL SCOUT SONGFEST IN FRANKLIN, KY
This is THIS upcoming Saturday.

A message from Amber Huggins. amber_huggins@uhc.com
"Simpson County Girl Scouts is hosting their 2nd Annual Songfest! The event will be from 6p-8p, on Saturday, September 17th, at the home of GSK staff member Beth Carroll- 2010 Springfield Rd., Franklin, KY.
September 17th is citizenship day and the start of Constitution Week. Our theme is Patriotism and Tradition. Patriotic and traditional GS songs will be sung around the camp fire. There will also be a flag retirement ceremony, and a representative from the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter will be in attendance to discuss the importance of voting in America, where that right comes from, and why as women we all need to vote. (This can be tied to the government and community badge components).
If you or your troop want to come, please contact Amber Huggins. amber_huggins@uhc.com. This is a FREE event! We look forward to singing with our sisters!"

Then, select your classes (reasonable costs) and send them in. Food is included in the event.

Details at the MYGS site link. The downloads are there for you at the page.  You can get MANY trainings there.

Registration deadline for this is Sept. 23. So you still have time to register.

Note: I will be teaching Songs and Games there, which will include Maori Sticks (Using the English Version song)! I'd love to have a BIG class.

News about more events! Events surprise page, Autumn Adventure, more.

OUR Warren County Service Unit Meeting is tonight AT 6, at the BG HS Library. I will be taking notes to share and will pick up all the flyers I can. I think I will need to bring LOTS of note-taking paper there.

We also will be learning about our 2016 MagNut sale. I don't know a lot about this yet, but would like to know what magazines are available - - and if they have my favorite chocolate covered nuts again this year.

I went to the MYGS/Activities area today at the GS of Kentuckiana website and saw there are MANY more things posted there. PLUS, they also had a new format there, that includes a real Calendar look option at the top of the Activities page. I remember thinking that this page will be helpful in the future.

They also had the Daisy List featured at the top of the page. I liked that!

BUT: Just now I looked back at the same Events page (logged in on MYGS), and see the older format there (a list of events). The new format just went away for me on my computer. Well, perhaps the new format will roll out soon. I think people will like it when it is OK'd and done. I am excited to see the possible Preview today. Maybe they were trying it out.

So be looking for it soon, I think. I redid the postings telling about the new format on the KYANA and Warren Co. pages just now.
Snap.

Autumn Adventure Weekend at Camp Shantituck - - this event is coming up in 2 weeks. It is Sept. 30 - Oct. 2. It is a weekend event. I am excited because I hope to teach Songs and Games there again. It is always fun for me to do that. I did do that at the Camp Pennyroyal Training Weekend this last weekend. Maori Sticks were the most popular game. I am not sure what the most popular song was. Probably the Maori Sticks song that goes with it.

Another neat thing about Autumn Adventure Weekend is that troops may come to it also. Details are on the signup sheet.

You can pick your classes for the Autumn Adventure Weekend on the MYGS-Events page. I copied the classes so I could think about them and see what I wanted to take. I used the "clipping" function to take pictures of the pages, then put them together on a MS Word page for myself.

Last weekend I was not able to take any classes (at Camp Pennyroyal's Training Weekend), and just came for the day. BUT I got some photos which I hope to post soon.

They had a neat Canoe Training there, plus lots more. I think this event will be really popular next year, once people hear how well it went.

New events I posted at the UNofficial FB pages today are:

The Annual Halloween Bash at Camp Pennyroyal Sat. Oct 15th, and
Framily Camping Skills Day - - also at Camp Pennyroyal - Nov. 5th (This is not for official trainings, it is just for fun and learning).

I also posted the Older Girl program - Butterfly/Pollinator Habitat Service Day, which is Sun. Oct. 9 from 2-5 at Houchens Program Center, and the Junior Animal Habitats Badge Program - also at Houchens on Sat., Oct. 29 from 1-4. These may already be listed at the official GS Calendar too.

Next on the Agenda is looking at the Activities Calendar again tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe it will look different again. :-)

I hope your Troop Year is starting out great.

PS I found a neat stand-up mosquito netting I might get. It would make staying in a Platform Tent SO much better for me. I could read in there and not get dive-bombed by insects. It looks fabulous. I keep seeing it on the side of my Facebook page. Somehow, Facebook KNOWS I want this...

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

Hi to all! Hope your Girl Scout year is starting off right. I have much to do, but looking forward to it!

Hi to all my Girl Scout friends and Sisters!

I am a "Helping Hand" this year for Troop 1433, the Arts and Adventure troop. Troops are now set up to only list one Leader (the 01 leader) this year on the website. We hope to have more girls join this year. It is a multi-level troop, and has some International students in it. Know a girl who can't find a troop? Troop 1433 is taking girls. List YOUR troop as having openings too, so you can also add girls. Do this at your Troop online page so you can add girls and have even more fun.
