Girl Scout Memes! Here are a few.... I'm adding more soon.

Cookie time is soon.

So use some of these memes. Make sure to get permission to use copyrighted ones. Some may have given permission.... others are from other councils and FB pages.

If you are not sure about a copyright, don't use it. Just saying.

They are fun to look at though.

Getting ready for the maybe-new GSUSA Strategic Plan - - and another plan that is definitely worth a look.

Waiting to hear the Big News - will there be a new Strategic Plan from GSUSA? And what will it look like?

People are talking about the big meeting going on right now in Chicago. CEO's and Board Chairs may already know about this. GSUSA is getting ready to share this news with the rest of the Membership soon.

What will be the news? Rumor has it that GSUSA will be (maybe) tweaking their Journey program some perhaps. OR that they will be having some more Outdoor or Science badges added to the Official Program. OR that GSUSA is coming up with other ideas.

So we really don't know.

But we now know more about GSUSA's Plan for the next few years. The below White Paper will tell about them so you know too.

The CEO of the Farthest North Council, Suellen Nelles, has a White Paper that was given to all the CEO's and she has also shared it with the Membership of GSUSA too.

Here is the link to it: it is called:

This is a PDF file that can be downloaded. It talks about current GSUSA Initiatives, and brings up a 10-point plan that she feels would be a lot better and really increase membership and interest in Girl Scouting.

This plan includes selling the GSUSA headquarters and moving to a new location, becoming more mission-focused, bringing back badges, having staff commit to the Movement, bringing back the true Governance Model of Juliette Low, (letting every Member have a voice), returning to the Troop Model, guidebooks for leaders, books that are online, Skill-building, revisiting the Pension Plan, and more, plus having a dialog with all CEO's about these important subjects.

This White Paper is definitely worth reading, and sending to your Council Staff people, including your Board and CEO. I plan to send it to my Girl Scout list too.

The Outdoor Girl Scout Project, that I am the Founder of, believes we need more Official Outdoor Program back in GSUSA - - leading to our highest awards. So does she.

What do you think? Leave a comment here. I don't have a lot of readers here, but it's OK to copy and paste it if you like! :-)

I look forward to hearing from GSUSA and finding out if they plan to look into these great ideas. I hope they do.

It's definitely worth thinking about! I hope GSUSA and ALL of the Membership Takes Action about needed official program and other needed changes soon.

And here is the <unofficial> Outdoor Girl Scout Project too - we have a copy of this White Paper now in our Files.  The Outdoor Girl Scout Project is working for more Official Outdoor Program in Girl Scouting, leading to Girl Scouting's highest awards of Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

The new Outdoor Initiative and also the Official Discussion at the 2014 National Council Session was brought about in part by interested Councils across the country. Come join for more Take Action ideas.

The Volunteer Systems Project - VSP

This just in:

Via the Volunteer Connections email from the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana today:

Volunteer Systems Project - VSP
Welcome to the beginning of your weekly update, as we countdown to the launch our Volunteer Systems Project! We GO LIVE with The System in November and we want YOU to be in the know. Girl Scouts is working hard to create a better Volunteer experience - we are going to make it easier, more manageable, and more enjoyable for you to be involved.  Consistent information, opportunities, leads, cases and solutions - it all starts with The System. We are going to give you the information and resources you need, when you need it, and in a way that makes sense for your busy life.

Over the next 5 weeks, you will be introduced to:

    a new organization model
    new business processes
    new planning resources
    new terms and language
    new communications methods

We ask a lot of you as volunteers, and each time, you rise to the occasion. We want to express our gratitude for your tremendous dedication and loyalty to Girl Scouts! It's going to take a lot of patience as we make this transition, and we know that we can count on your support.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I like this whole idea of getting better ways of sharing information. I can't wait to see how it looks.

I also found out that this whole computer system is NOT going to be just for K-5 Girl Scouts. I had been told that earlier somewhere else. So I am super happy about that. But it may roll out slowly, because there are some glitches to work out. I like also that there will be information for all volunteers on the site. It's good, win-win news.

Communication is so important. And this system (I have been told) eventually will track inquiries, have somebody answering phones in person, (I like that idea too!) and make sure people don't get ignored, girls get into troops, and troops, girls, parents, and everyone gets information and can give out information in many great ways.

KUDOS! Great idea. I can't wait to learn more about it.

Some Girl Scout News from Betsy S. - Version D, Sep 28 link, plus more.

SOME GIRL SCOUT NEWS - - for the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Area 17 and Beyond
Events, Trainings, Facebook Pages, the Trainer Retreat, more.

FYI: Get connected!

Here is how.

Most areas have a Facebook page. You will need to be OK'd for these. Some are for only Member-Volunteers, others are for only Volunteers. Some may be out of the Council. you must be OK'd first to these groups. Other Service Units may have their own pages this year too, so ask your Service Unit Manager about that if you do not know where your page is, or whether there is one. They can be very handy for building communication and also for learning about fun events and trainings. Any area can make one.

Trainer Retreat Day Meeting was on September 26th
This meeting took place on Saturday in Louisville at their PLC. We learned a lot! Our Staff people are reorganizing for better communication, and better links on the website too. We organized some trainings in order for streamlining them for later too. We learned more about navigation on the website too. The Staff is also adding more things to the website all the time. We also shared some ideas for new trainings.

Archery News
There is a lot of good news in our Council about our Archery programs. We have MANY people now able to teach Archery in the council, both to troop and for events. People are now working on having even more fun Archery trainings and/or events in the future for people really interested in this.

Send in your Girl Scout News
If you'd like to have your events on the UNofficial Calendar and/or on a blog posting here, send your info.  to Elizabeth Sheppard at lizann447@yahoo.com.

Autumn Adventure Weekend
This is a great training weekend, and a good time to meet other GS adults and just chat. Register now!

It's just two weeks out til Autumn Adventure Weekend. See attached. This weekend is focused on adult training and has a wide array of classes from which to select. You can attend just one. You can pop in and out of camp as you need to. You can go out and stay overnight. Whatever works!
It in necessary to print the attached piece, complete the registration form and send it via US MAIL to the Girl Scout office -- or hand deliver it, if that works better for you. There is no on-line or electronic option.
For those of you who are new, Camp Shantituck, the location of this event, is located in northern Bullitt County just east of the Brooks Exit. #121. Many people who decide to stay are housed in one of the camp's buildings with restrooms, showers, etc. Mattresses to put on the floor are available.
The weekend is a huge volunteer-driven effort with minimal staff support. Classes that don't get adequate numbers can/will be canceled, so don't wait to make your plans and send in your registration. Hope to see you there!

Find a Registration Form at the Above UNofficial Facebook pages now, in their Files section.

Mark Your Calendars for a new Orienteering Event at Camp Barren Ridge.
Via Pam Barnes: The new flyer is out for the Orienteering at Barren Ridge event for January 9, 2016.
"Are you interested in ORIENTEERING? Do you know how to read a compass or want to learn how? Do you need to learn or practice map reading? Now is your chance to try a new skill or test an old one! Do you like exploring secluded, off the trail areas of camp?
Come to the Louisville Orienteering Event at Camp Barren Ridge on January 9, 2016." More is on the PDF flyer, which is 2 pages.

There is lots more information on upcoming trainings in your Training Calendar (available at the GS office) and also on the Official Calendar link: https://www.gskentuckiana.org/en/events/event-calendar.html.

MANY more fun events are planned for our area and beyond. Check with the official and unofficial Calendars, attend your Service Unit Meetings, and make sure you are on your Area's email Mailing Lists too. If you are not receiving any emails, call your local PLC to get on it.
