Getting ready for the maybe-new GSUSA Strategic Plan - - and another plan that is definitely worth a look.

Waiting to hear the Big News - will there be a new Strategic Plan from GSUSA? And what will it look like?

People are talking about the big meeting going on right now in Chicago. CEO's and Board Chairs may already know about this. GSUSA is getting ready to share this news with the rest of the Membership soon.

What will be the news? Rumor has it that GSUSA will be (maybe) tweaking their Journey program some perhaps. OR that they will be having some more Outdoor or Science badges added to the Official Program. OR that GSUSA is coming up with other ideas.

So we really don't know.

But we now know more about GSUSA's Plan for the next few years. The below White Paper will tell about them so you know too.

The CEO of the Farthest North Council, Suellen Nelles, has a White Paper that was given to all the CEO's and she has also shared it with the Membership of GSUSA too.

Here is the link to it: it is called:

This is a PDF file that can be downloaded. It talks about current GSUSA Initiatives, and brings up a 10-point plan that she feels would be a lot better and really increase membership and interest in Girl Scouting.

This plan includes selling the GSUSA headquarters and moving to a new location, becoming more mission-focused, bringing back badges, having staff commit to the Movement, bringing back the true Governance Model of Juliette Low, (letting every Member have a voice), returning to the Troop Model, guidebooks for leaders, books that are online, Skill-building, revisiting the Pension Plan, and more, plus having a dialog with all CEO's about these important subjects.

This White Paper is definitely worth reading, and sending to your Council Staff people, including your Board and CEO. I plan to send it to my Girl Scout list too.

The Outdoor Girl Scout Project, that I am the Founder of, believes we need more Official Outdoor Program back in GSUSA - - leading to our highest awards. So does she.

What do you think? Leave a comment here. I don't have a lot of readers here, but it's OK to copy and paste it if you like! :-)

I look forward to hearing from GSUSA and finding out if they plan to look into these great ideas. I hope they do.

It's definitely worth thinking about! I hope GSUSA and ALL of the Membership Takes Action about needed official program and other needed changes soon.

And here is the <unofficial> Outdoor Girl Scout Project too - we have a copy of this White Paper now in our Files.  The Outdoor Girl Scout Project is working for more Official Outdoor Program in Girl Scouting, leading to Girl Scouting's highest awards of Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

The new Outdoor Initiative and also the Official Discussion at the 2014 National Council Session was brought about in part by interested Councils across the country. Come join for more Take Action ideas.

The Volunteer Systems Project - VSP

This just in:

Via the Volunteer Connections email from the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana today:

Volunteer Systems Project - VSP
Welcome to the beginning of your weekly update, as we countdown to the launch our Volunteer Systems Project! We GO LIVE with The System in November and we want YOU to be in the know. Girl Scouts is working hard to create a better Volunteer experience - we are going to make it easier, more manageable, and more enjoyable for you to be involved.  Consistent information, opportunities, leads, cases and solutions - it all starts with The System. We are going to give you the information and resources you need, when you need it, and in a way that makes sense for your busy life.

Over the next 5 weeks, you will be introduced to:

    a new organization model
    new business processes
    new planning resources
    new terms and language
    new communications methods

We ask a lot of you as volunteers, and each time, you rise to the occasion. We want to express our gratitude for your tremendous dedication and loyalty to Girl Scouts! It's going to take a lot of patience as we make this transition, and we know that we can count on your support.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I like this whole idea of getting better ways of sharing information. I can't wait to see how it looks.

I also found out that this whole computer system is NOT going to be just for K-5 Girl Scouts. I had been told that earlier somewhere else. So I am super happy about that. But it may roll out slowly, because there are some glitches to work out. I like also that there will be information for all volunteers on the site. It's good, win-win news.

Communication is so important. And this system (I have been told) eventually will track inquiries, have somebody answering phones in person, (I like that idea too!) and make sure people don't get ignored, girls get into troops, and troops, girls, parents, and everyone gets information and can give out information in many great ways.

KUDOS! Great idea. I can't wait to learn more about it.
