Not all the news that is fit to print - but some!

THIS MEETING FOR THE WARREN COUNTY SERVICE UNIT IS TOMORROW - - TUESDAY!

SHARING AGAIN: A message from our SU Mgr, Tracey D.

"Hello,
Our last Service Unit meeting for this school year will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 6pm at the Kirby Library branch. Please plan to attend.

Leslie will be there for anyone who may want/need help with Early Bird registration. Remember, all registrations must be done on-line now. Please consider bringing your laptop or other device if you would like to use your own. She will also have hers with her to help.

We will have our awards and recognition at this meeting as well as a lot of other things that will need to be covered. We ask kindly that you not bring kids if at all possible since we do have so much to try to cover.

If anyone has anything in particular that you would like to see us review/discuss at this meeting then please let us know ahead of time so that we can plan for it in advance. We don't want to keep anyone any longer than necessary.

I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Tracey"

From me: If you can't attend, have somebody else from your troop (a Troop Committee Member or Co-Leader or Parent) attend for you and take notes.

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER!

If you haven’t registered yet for Outdoor Training Weekend, the time is NOW. Really. Don’t delay. IMPORTANT: Because registrations and payment info have to be mailed to Owensboro, it can take the USPS a week to get your mailing there. But we need class counts right away — so when you put your registration in the mail, please also do the following: Write me at woelfelmarty@aol.com with the classes you want to take. (For Camp In B, be sure to tell us morning or afternoon class; for Camp Out be sure to tell us Saturday or Sunday; and for Canoeing Facilitator be sure to tell us Saturday or Sunday.) Note: Archery Facilitator is FULL and we are wait-listing people for that class. (It will be offered again during Autumn Adventure Weekend Sept 30-Oct 2 for certain and probably some other times/places in the fall.)

The signup for this is online and also available in the Files section at the KYANA Unofficial FB page.

These pages at the official GSUSA website are worth a look, especially if you have older girls.

Check out all the Destinations available for girls here at the GSUSA website: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/tr…/take-a-trip/destinations/

Also, all Getaways are listed here: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/travel/take-a-trip/getaways/.

And International Events are here: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/…/take…/international-events/

Be sure to check all application deadlines carefully. If deadlines are past on some, you can always look at these pages earlier next time with your girls. Many events change from year to year, but some stay almost the same.

Via Beth: "Our Nations Capitol Council and GSUSA are sponsoring a Gold Award Centennial Display on Capitol Hill on June 14th. 8 Gold Award recipients nationwide were chosen to display their Gold Award Projects and GSK is honored to have our own Hannah Gadd be one of those 8 girls!"

Our council also is planning some special activities for all Members who have received Girl Scouting's highest award. Stay tuned to hear more about that from our council.

An FYI: Great online safety resources for kids are at the official US Gov site: kids.gov. They just got updated too.

Right now, I am getting re-certified - - getting a NEW background check for next year.

On the Service Unit Teams page, I found out that if you don't see a background check on your Profile Page (at the MYGS area) then you are not up to date.

I went to the website to get certified. Then I saw I needed a special Code. Then I found out I did NOT need the code. So the next thing, I will try again with a link given to me by a KYANA Staff member, Karlee A.

Read the story in the Daily News about the grant and Butterfly Garden project.
http://www.wbko.com/content/news/Girl-Scouts-of-Kentuckiana-Houchens-receive-grant-from-SCA-377714541.html

And here is the posting from the KYANA and Warren Co. FB pages:

HOUCHENS BUTTERFLY/POLLINATOR HABITAT KICK-OFF AND PLANTING DAY!
Saturday - May 21 10 am to 4 pm
(come for the entire day or part of day)
Houchens Program Center
4520 Barren River Rd. Bowling Green
All Kentuckiana Girl Scouts, troops and their families are invited to help be a part of Kentuckiana camp history!

DETAILS - You probably have heard that butterflies and pollinators/bees are at risk due to habitat loss. As Girl Scouts, we can help “make the world a better place” by helping to create new habitat for them. Houchens Program Center in Bowling Green is creating a two acre butterfly/pollinator habitat to help them survive.
The 2 acre field will be plowed and ready to plant. We will be planting some areas with seeds, and other areas with plants. These will already be at camp waiting for our enthusiastic efforts. A section is also reserved for troops who want to “adopt” and maintain their own garden.

WHAT TO BRING - If you have flower garden plants to share, especially perennials, please feel free to bring them– do not bring trees or anything with thorns. Garden tools (shovels, garden rakes, trowels, gloves, etc) marked with your name would be helpful. We will provide bottles of water and light snacks. If you plan to stay all day, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy our camp. Wear clothes that can get dirty. We recommend insect repellant – there are sometimes ticks and chiggers at camp. Sunscreen is probably a good idea too.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE TO EXPECT, INCLUDING FAMILY MEMBERS. There is no fee for this program!!!!

<Ginny Pfohl>

RSVP TO: Ginny Pfohl ginnypf@aol.com –and put butterfly garden in the subject line.
Troop Leaders – if your troop want to “adopt” a garden space to take care of, you must let me know, so we can plan on creating the right number of spaces. This troop garden does NOT need to be planted on the Kick-Off date. Email me for more details!!

Ginny also says, "Remember that this does not need to be a troop event. Individual scouts can come with a family member or their entire family. Girls can come with a friend's family too. But it is not a "drop off your kid " event -someone needs to be responsible for them."

Beth Carroll says, "We are very excited about these water bottles! They are great and the girls will love them! Also, they will roll out in three waves as girls early bird so they do not have to wait til the end of the campaign to get theirs! If you are doing something exciting to promote early bird in your troop, service unit, or area, please send information to Beth Carroll at: bcarroll@gskentuckiana.org so we can share our stories and answer the question: 'How do you Early Bird?'"
